    CHAPTER I
    PRELIMINARY

    1.1 Background
    Teenagers are a transition from childhood to adulthood. A teenager can no longer be regarded as a child, but he is still not mature enough to be considered an adult. He is looking for the lifestyle that is most suitable for him and even this is often done through trial and error methods even though many mistakes. His mistakes often lead to worries and unpleasant feelings for the environment, his parents. The mistakes made by teenagers will only please their peers. This is because they are indeed both still in the period of searching for identity. The mistakes that lead to environmental resentment are often referred to as juvenile delinquency.
    Teenagers are the future assets of a nation. In addition to the good news about the activities of teenagers in recent times and the coaching carried out by student organizations, we also see the current moral degeneration that is increasingly prevalent among some of our young people, who are more known as juvenile delinquency. In the newspapers we often read news about student fights, narcotics distribution, drug use, alcoholism, snatchers carried out by teenage children, increased cases of pregnancy among young women and others.
    This is a problem faced by society which is now increasingly widespread. Therefore, the problem of juvenile delinquency should get serious attention and focus on directing adolescents towards a more positive direction, which focuses on creating a system to tackle delinquency among adolescents.

    1.2 Problem Formulation

    Based on the background above, the authors formulated the issues to be discussed in this paper as follows:
    1. What is juvenile delinquency?
    2. What are the causes of juvenile delinquency?
    3. What is the solution to overcome juvenile delinquency?

    1.3 Purpose

    The purpose of this paper is to give students an understanding of juvenile delinquency, its causes and solutions.
    1. Students understand the notion of juvenile delinquency.
    2. Students know the factors that cause juvenile delinquency.
    3. Students know the solution in overcoming juvenile delinquency.
